This Hopkinton, MA home addition was designed to create a spacious, light-filled home office with generous walk-in closet storage, seamlessly expanding the functionality of the existing home. The new addition adds approximately 650 square feet and was carefully planned to blend architecturally with the original structure while providing modern comfort and efficiency.
Construction began with full dust protection to the existing home and the installation of a debris chute to the ground to safely manage demolition waste. The existing garage roof and walls were selectively demolished to prepare the space for construction. Our team then framed new exterior walls and a new roof structure according to the final plans, creating a full-size office and walk-in closets with five windows to maximize natural light.
The addition features five ProVia white vinyl double-hung windows with 6-over-6 internal grids, double-strength glass, and argon gas insulation. New roofing was installed with the closest possible match to the existing roof, along with all-new vinyl siding, trim, and moldings to maintain a cohesive exterior appearance. Matching black shutters were added to complete the exterior and tie the addition seamlessly into the original home.
Inside, a plywood subfloor was installed, followed by full interior wall framing per the final plans. Electrical work included all rough and finish wiring to code, with recessed lighting installed throughout the new space. A new mini-split heating and cooling system was added to provide efficient, year-round comfort. All walls, ceilings, and floors were insulated to code for improved energy performance.
Interior finishes include smooth plaster walls and ceilings, new interior doors and trim to match the existing home, and custom walk-in closet shelving with hanging rods. The space was painted in Soft Chamois by Benjamin Moore, creating a warm, neutral backdrop. Flooring throughout approximately 625 square feet was completed with Studio™ Quillian luxury vinyl plank flooring, delivering durability, comfort, and a clean, modern finish.
The completed addition provides a highly functional and beautifully finished home office with ample storage, natural light, and seamless integration with the existing home.
