2025: Finished Basement Remodel with Full Bath & Home Gym in Boxborough, MA
Transforming an underutilized lower level into a high-end, multi-functional living space adds significant value and comfort to any home. This recent project in Boxborough, MA involved a comprehensive 930-square-foot basement renovation that converted a dark storage area into a bright, cohesive extension of the home.
The new layout features a spacious family room, a bonus room, and a dedicated fitness center, all designed with smooth plastered walls and a new HVAC zone—complete with an air exchanger and specialized ductwork—to ensure the space feels identical in comfort to the main floors.
A Professional-Grade Home Gym and Living Space
The design prioritized durability, performance, and everyday livability—especially in the high-traffic workout zone. Laurel Reserve Flaxen Luxury Vinyl Planks were installed throughout the main living areas for a waterproof, wood-look finish, while the stairs were finished in a Textured Wall-to-Wall Carpet for added safety.
The gym itself is equipped with professional glued-down rubber flooring and a massive 1/4" clear annealed mirror with seamed edges, creating an energizing environment for high-impact exercise.
To address one of the most common basement challenges—limited natural light—the design incorporates recessed LED lighting on dimmers alongside custom faux window LED panels. These illuminated panels were strategically placed in interior and below-grade areas to bring in a soft, daylight-like glow, allowing the basement to feel bright and open without cutting into the foundation. When turned on, the faux windows provide the visual comfort of natural light while maintaining the home’s structural integrity.
Modern Bathroom Design and Premium Fixtures
The focal point of the guest accommodations is the full bathroom, which required extensive concrete work to install a new drainage system and a Delta Universal Mixing Rough-In Valve with Service Stops.
The vanity area features Waypoint Cabinetry 410F Shaker Doors in Navy with matching five-piece drawer fronts, topped with Calacatta Sienna Silver Quartz and a white porcelain rectangular undermount sink. The cabinetry is finished with Amerock Destine bar cabinet pulls and paired with a Delta Nicoli widespread bathroom faucet. Above the vanity, an Elegant Lighting Eternity circular metal-framed mirror anchors the modern design.
Shower and High-End Finishes
The shower features a STERLING STORE+ single-threshold base and wall system with a 10-piece accessory kit, enclosed by a Kohler Levity bypass semi-frameless shower door in clear glass. Plumbing fixtures include a Delta Arvo pressure-balanced shower system with hand shower and a Delta 4" prefab round shower drain.
For comfort and hygiene, an American Standard Cadet 3 elongated toilet with EverClean surface and PowerWash rim was installed, customized with a Delta Altado universal toilet tank lever. The space is finished with hardware from the Delta Trinsic Collection, including a wall-mounted towel bar, towel ring, tissue holder, and robe hook.
Quality Craftsmanship and Final Details
Beyond the visible finishes, this project reflects the level of craftsmanship that defines a professional remodel. Support posts were carefully wrapped to match the trim, and custom closet shelving was installed in the new storage areas.
Even the smallest details were handled with care—when the local inspector required a custom plumbing component for final sign-off, our team sourced and installed it immediately to keep the project on schedule. The result is a seamless, high-value finished basement that functions as a true extension of the home.
Paint Note:
Accent walls were painted in Naval (SW 6244) by Sherwin-Williams, paired with Drift of Mist (SW 9166) on the remaining walls for a soft, balanced contrast.
